Space Pirate Captain Harlock Movie English Dub: James Cameron Praises the Mythic and Epic Film

Space Pirate Captain Harlock (Japanese: 宇宙海賊キャプテンハーロック, Hepburn: Uchū Kaizoku Kyaputen Hārokku, also romanized as Space Pirate Captain Herlock) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Leiji Matsumoto. It was serialized in Play Comic from 1977 to 1979, with the chapters collected into five tankōbon volumes by Akita Shoten. The series follows the titular Captain, an outcast turned space pirate after he rebelled against Earth's Government and humanity's general apathy.

Space Pirate Captain Harlock Movie English Dub

Harlock is the archetypal romantic hero, a space pirate with an individualist philosophy of life. He is as noble as he is taciturn, rebellious, stoically fighting against totalitarian regimes, whether they be earthborn or alien. In his own words, he "fight[s] for no one's sake, only for something deep in [his] heart."

The brainchild of Leiji Matsumoto (creator of Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers, Galaxy Express 999, and more recently, Interstellar 5555: The 5tory Of The 5ecret 5tar 5ystem in cooperation with Daft Punk), Harlock is one of the first genre antiheroes to hit the large or small screen. In 1978, the Space Pirate Captain Harlock television series introduced us to the adventures of the brooding, eyepatch-wearing pirate and his crew of misfits aboard the Arcadia, the most powerful battleship in known space. It dealt with somewhat more mature themes than other animated shows, which brought it to the attention of more than the Saturday morning TV cartoon crowd. Along with Space Battleship Yamato (and its American counterpart, Star Blazers), it arguably introduced the arc-based plot line that would become popular only decades later with shows like Babylon 5.

The 22-episode series that followed in October 1982 picked up where the feature-length movie Arcadia Of My Youth left off. Harlock had been branded an outlaw. He traveled space looking for a planet of freedom where everyone could live free.

As humanity's space empire collapses, 500 billion colonists pour back to re-settle their mother planet. With Earth unable to support such vast numbers, the devastating Homecoming War is fought over who has the right to return. The conflict leads to the rise of the authoritarian Gaia Coalition, who declare the Earth a sacred place that must not be repopulated ...only to break their own rule by allowing the galactic elite to take over the planet. This hypocrisy enrages Captain Harlock, however, and the immortal space pirate goes to tragic lengths to thwart the Gaia Coalition's plans. Now the renegade captain and his crew, including ethereal alien Miime, loyal lieutenant Kei and the boisterous Yullian, are on a mission to set things right - by resetting the so-called 'Genesis Clock'. But Gaia Coalition admiral Ezra has sent his brother Logan to infiltrate Harlock's ghost ship Arcadia and put an end to the Captain once and for all...

Space piracy has never looked so good! A veteran at crafting CG anime, Shinji Aramaki pulls out all the stops to ensure that Captain Harlock's return to our screens is as epic as possible. The design of everything from the pirates' space suits to Harlock's badass flagship to the gallant captain himself drips with a retro-futuristic style that captures perfectly the darker tone of the new movie. 2ff7e9595c
